One great way to teach elementary school math skills to students with and without special needs is through the game of Math Bingo. It’s played very similarly to regular bingo: The caller gives the players a math problem. The players then solve the problem, look for the answer on the bingo card, and cover the appropriate spot with a counter. VALENTINE BINGO GAME MATH ACTIVITY
This simple Valentine bingo game is the perfect Valentine’s math activity for kids from kindergarten through fifth grade.
For younger kids, simple rules of bingo will strengthen number recognition skills from 1-100. For older kids, try hiding the answer to each blank behind a math problem.
For example, if the number is 35, state the answer as “What is 5 times 7?”

What Kids Learn with Valentine’s Day Bingo Cards

How to Set Up the Printable Valentine Bingo Cards
Print your bingo cards onto sturdy cardstock paper. If you laminate them, you can use them multiple times.
Cut apart the cards and give one to each child.

Show the kids how to cover the numbers on their cards as they are called.
Decide what skill you want the kids to work on and build your bingo call numbers based on that.
The first child to fill in a line on their card wins!

- Print off the Bingo cards and the calling cards
- Cut out the calling cards
- Gather up game markers
How to Play Geometry Bingo
Math Bingo online, free
In a small group, read off a clue on the calling cards from Geometry Bingo. Have the children playing the game point to a picture on their Bingo card that correctly illustrates the clue. There may be more than one answer. If the student can explain why that illustration works, they may cover it up. The first person that gets five in a row wins.
What makes this game a challenge is that many of the clues have two or more answers. For example, one of the clues says, “A square has two sets of them.”
A student could say parallel lines or even perpendicular lines.
Another clue says, “Where two roads meet.” Well, some roads meet and create 90-degree angles, other meet and create angles of different values. Sooooo, this clue could actually describe perpendicular lines and intersecting lines.
As you are working through the clues and trying to figure out what their answers are, have your students explain their reasoning. As they talk through why they think this or that illustration works, they will be using vocabulary, definitions, and reasoning. All that conversation is what will help this concept stick, not the just the game.
